India has taken further steps too ensure the security of its country. This time India will monitor its territory from space. The Indian Ministry of Defense says that India has undertaken a special satellite surveillance project, through which spies or suspicious activities of enemy countries can be identified in advance. The annual cost of the entire project is about 150 crores and it will be fully operational by 2026.
The responsibility of this Indian project has been given to Bengaluru-based space startup Digantar. It is said that this is the largest project of the Ministry of Defense by a private space company in the country so far.
What is special about this system?
The main objective of this new satellite system is to quickly identify and counter any foreign surveillance or espionage aimed at India.
Currently, ISRO's 'Netra' system monitors the location of space debris and satellites, but this new system is being developed exclusively for defense surveillance.
These satellites will be designed in such a way that they can be connected to each other and send data in real-time to various ground stations in the country. The entire technology and construction will be done with Indian technology. A control center for this operation may be set up in Bengaluru.
This projecet has made it clear that the government's confidence in India's private space sector is increasing day by day. Digantar has earlier also received a contract from the American defense agency DARPA. Similarly, Indian startup Pixel has recently been working with NASA.
